How to edit your avatar appearance

One of the most asked questions in Dreamworld these days is: How do I change my avatar? At the moment of writing this tutorial editing your avatar appearance is not fully implemented yet in the Dreamworld viewer but it does function in a complete way. You can alter and change every aspect of your avatar in Dreamworld.

Create a new shape
Open your inventory, click on the button that states "Inventory" which is located in the right bottom corner of your screen.
In your inventory select create --> new body parts --> new shape.
Wear your new shape
Now that you have created your new shape we have to locate it in the inventory window. Go to your body parts folder in the inventory panel and click the folder to open it. You will see your newly create shape in there. Now we must activate it by wearing your new shape. In order to do so right click the shape listed in your body parts folder and select wear.
Move into appearance mode
Now that your new shape is activated and you are wearing it the time has come to start editing your shape (virtual body) by going into edit appearance mode. To do so just right click your avatar, select edit appearance.
Make yourself familiar with the appearance window and its functions
You will see that a new window pops up in the Dreamworld viewer named the Appearance window. In this window you can change every single aspect of your avatar. Not only your shape but also other avatar aspects like your eyes; hair; underwear; shirt; jacket to even your shoes but more about this later in this tutorial. Also important to note is that you can now also change your gender because when you entered Dreamworld you appear as a "Ruthed Avatar" the little lady with brown hair. So you can switch from female to male by checking the correct button in the appearance panel. All the edit functions in the viewer are very intuitive and self-explanatory and after a few minutes of experimenting you will understand the working of the appearance window.
Adapt the same technique to change very aspect of your avatar
A little bit earlier in this tutorial a reference was made to the fact that you can use the appearance window to change every single aspect of your avatar and this is true. But in order to do so you must first create a new item in your inventory, right click it, wear it, go into edit appearance mode and then you will be able to change that specific part or piece of clothing for your avatar. Do follow the above steps otherwise it won't work. You will see a greyed out appearance window and will not be able to make changes.
Recapitulation of the steps to change your appearance in the correct order
- Open inventory
- Select Create
- Select New Clothes or New Bodyparts
- Right click your newly created avatar item and select wear
- Right click your avatar and select Appearance
- In the Appearance window select the tab of your newly worn item and start editing it until you are fully satisfied
When you are finished and happy with the result a new representation of the virtual you will start to exist like on the picture below. Now you are ready to go and explore the Metaverse.
